Brain JackThe book’s three main characters are Sam Wilson, Vienna Smith, and Dodge. Sam is a hacker that gets recruited to the CDD (Cyber Defense Division) of Homeland Security. He is also is the protagonist. Vienna Is also a member of CDD. At first she is cold toward Sam but warms up later in the book. Dodge is a good computer programmer and wrote the “Plague” computer virus, a very dangerous crypto virus. In the beginning Sam was going to do a computer hack on Telecomerica before hacking into the White House. When he does, he is caught and put in a prison known as Recton Asylum. Sam hacks some more and gets the access codes to the doors, escapes, and his friend Dodge takes him to the CDD (Cyber Defense Division) of Homeland Security. Sam accepts a contract to work for the CDD. CDD is then hacked and eventually everyone gets the Blue Screen of Death except Dodge and Sam. The hackers then hack into a plane and make it fly toward CDD Headquarters. The plane hits the building but misses the people inside. Dodge puts on a neuro headset (which gives the wearer’s brain direct access to the Internet) but it fries his brain. Then everyone turns against Sam as he drags Dodge outside where they run into Vienna. They drive off in a car to Las Vegas, which had been nuked before the story began. There they find there is a war going on between non-neuro users and neuro users. The neuro users have false memories that were implanted by a collective consciousness that Sam refers to as Ursala. Ending up in Cheyenne Mountain, Dodge and Sam upload the “Plague”. This doesn’t work, but Sam hacks into the neuro system and disables Ursala, ending the war. |
